PC/VDT PROGRAMMING - ANTI-PASSBACK
9-192
System 2 Installation / Programming Manual
Anti-Passback (Option #7)
You must have the Second Door option activated to activate this feature.
If the VDT displays: Option Not Active! Install in Option 13
Press Any Key, go to Option 13 and follow the instructions to activate the Second
Door.
Anti-Passback is a powerful security tool. Before we look at how to program Anti-
Passback, we'll discuss what it is.
Anti-Passback requires that a user must enter via Port 1 and exit through Port 2. Typically
this option is used in conditions where the Management does not want an individual to enter
and then "pass" their Card "back" to another individual (under the door, through a window,
whatever) therefore allowing an unauthorized entry. It is required when using anti-passback
that Port 1 and Port 2 control a single door.
Coupled with other security measures, anti-passback is an effective way to keep absolute
track of who comes and goes. Another effective way to use this option is at parking lots or
garages where the exit is separated from the entrance.
There are two types of Anti-Passback: Hard and Soft. Hard Anti-Passback means there is
never any forgiveness. You must exit an area before you can enter it again, in strict
alternation, for all time, period.
With Soft Anti-Passback enabled, all Anti-Passback restrictions are "forgiven" and reset to
their initial working state at sometime during the day. So, if you sneak out the door with
another employee, you can re-enter the door again... after the forgive time has passed. Let’s
look at this in greater detail.
Hard or Soft Anti-Passback
The VDT will display the instructions:
1=Hard,2=Soft
0=Quit
Enter AP Type [1]
At the Enter AP Type [1] prompt enter 1 for Hard AP or 2 for Soft AP.
If you choose 1 your finished. If you choose 2 you must set the Forgive Time.
Forgive Time
The VDT will display the following instructions:
Use Military hh:mm
Set Forgive Time [00:00]
If you select 23:00 as your forgive time (11:00 PM), the System will automatically reset the
Anti-Passback feature at 11:00 PM.
If you are using the System 2 in its network mode, anti-passback works locally to each unit.
This means that if a user enters on port one of the master, that user must exit through port 2 of
the master -- not port 2 of any other unit. The same is true for Slave #1, #2, and all other
slaves.
